Neurofeedback
- Neurofeedback has improved my life. I began Neurofeedback training for difficulty falling asleep and high anxiety. The sessions have lowered my anxiety and given me the ability to think a situation through, formulate a thought and decide how to act as opposed to just reacting. I feel calmer even though my life is full of challenges. I have survived my son’s and husband’s addictions and I am presently moving forward with a divorce. My overall experience was very positive as I watched my graph become flowing throughout the sessions. What I enjoyed most was the nice music and relaxation. I liked the fact that I was forced to sit down.
I would encourage anyone with anxiety in their life to try Neurofeedback as an alternative to prescription drugs. The sessions are relaxing and non intrusive in any physical way. Observing my brainwaves on the graphs showed me how my brain reacted to stress. I was sleeping poorly, had too much mind chatter and I was reacting to everything going on around me without the ability to decide what I needed to take on and what was none of my business.
Like seeing my chiropractor once a month to keep my body aligned, I try to do a session of Neurofeedback as well, to keep my brainwaves balanced. At times of acute anxiety, I find it helpful to increase my visits.
I have done Neurofeedback in conjunction with acupuncture, counselling & increased physical activity in order to live out a more balanced life. I have faced numerous challenges without the fear immobilizing me. The flexibility I now have allows me to move in and out of joy, happiness, anger, resentment and fear without getting stuck in anyone place. I believe this is due in a large part to Neurofeedback.

- Headaches, brain fog, anxiety and loss of concentration from Celiac Disease brought me to Neurofeedback. What I enjoyed most about the Neurofeedback was the relaxed state & the feeling that I was compressing old patterns and processing information. My experience was relaxing and enlightening. I appreciated Penny’s personal care and attention to my specific health requirements. She provided clear explanations as we charted progress over time. I would recommend Penny’s service to others.

- My 8 yr old daughter’s sleep has greatly improved since beginning Neurofeedback training with Penny. She is calmer and her spelling, reading and math have improved. Her teachers have noticed the difference and are no longer requesting that she be put on medication. The teachers also report that she is socializing more with her classmates. Thank you Penny!

- I don't think I'll ever allow myself to go through life's hardships again, without the assistance of Neurofeedback! I can't remember how many treatments I've had as I have lost track. I started Neurofeedback after I read Penny's ad in the local paper. At the time, I was painfully, slowly, recovering from a long illness from which there was no real medical treatment; by that I mean medication. I had seen many good doctors who tried really hard to find out what was ailing me. I was still unable to work full time when I found Penny. When I spoke with her at first, her info resonated with me. I already had the feeling that due to the long illness I suffered, that my body was now not capable of a full fast recovery. I kept telling friends and family that it was like a switch had gotten 'turned off' or 'confused' - like mixed signals. I am glad to say that I am a determined person willing to examine all options and that's what really put me on the healing path. The first six sessions with Penny were incredible. It's hard to explain, but I could feel enormous energy starting to pulse through my body. So much so, that after a few of the sessions, I simply had to go home and rest for long periods. After that, my physical, mental, and emotional energy started to stabilize and grow. I didn't expect the kind of results I was getting because it seemed to affect me on all levels of my being. I felt more aware and clear on certain old issues; I sometimes even received amazing clarity while having a session! Even after great improvement in my physical health, I continued to receive weekly sessions and sometimes biweekly because I felt so much growth on a spiritual, emotional, and mental plane.
Neurofeedback was and is a miracle in my life. It just helped me to heal and become more of who I am today. While I no longer live in Port Moody, I still plan on continuing Neurofeedback and still spread the word to anyone I think would benefit. No matter what modality or therapy you choose to assist you in your life, Neurofeedback can do nothing but enhance your own innate abilities to operate at their best and give you the best chance to recover/improve/grow… whatever it is you are searching for. I whole-heartedly encourage anyone to give it a chance. The only side effect possible is a positive outcome if you embrace it and give yourself the opportunity of a lifetime! Penny is a rare gem, and I know this as I have worked in the alternative field for over 20 years now, and thanks to Neurofeedback, I am able to passionately and energetically continue on my own path. I wish the best to anybody reading this, knowing the search has brought you to this door (Penny's); you are definitely where you are meant to be at this moment!

- If I was to grade my experience I would give it an A+ and I would recommend it to others. I always felt that I wasn’t just a client but rather an individual experiencing a holistic time of wellness. This is the best way I can express my experience. I had hoped that Neurofeedback would cure or in some way help my body to deal with its difficulty in keeping itself cool when the surrounding temperature went above 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Unfortunately it did not; but I did have the incredible good luck to be treated by a therapist committed to wellness and holistic growth. After each session, I would feel better. I was more patient and less reactive to situations that had irritated in me the past. I found the sessions very empowering. I know Neurofeedback is in itself is a very powerful technique, but I believe it requires an especially skilled and committed therapist. With the Neurofeedback I experienced an inner calm. I have since come to understand that this calm was always inside me; I just needed to nurture this aspect of me and find ways to remove the weeds (so to speak) that blocked the growth of my inner peace. I have been treated by a lot of people and I have experienced a lot of different therapies, but Penny and Neurofeedback are one of the few therapies I would definitely recommend. Using empathy and excellent listening skills, Penny added another dimension to the Neurofeedback process.

- Penny is an intelligent, compassionate and deeply thoughtful person. I began Neurofeedback training with Penny 5 years ago after being involved in a car accident. I had a previous history of 6 concussions and experienced poor sleep, anxiety, unclear thinking and knee pain. I had difficulty making decisions and handled stress poorly. I enjoy the sense of relaxation and well being that I get from the Neurofeedback training. At times I actually feel the Neurofeedback working on what I sense are the problem areas of my brain.
Nearly 4 years ago, after having Neurofeedback training, I had a series of stressful events occur my in life. My mother was diagnosed with a fatal brain disease. For 10 months I traveled 2 hours a day to care for my mother and my father who were not coping well. During this time, my father’s only brother died un-expectantly, followed by my mother’s close brother. One week following my mother’s death, my sister separated and eventually divorced from her husband of 18 years. Then, 1 ½ months after the passing of my mother, my mother in law passed away un-expectantly, followed by my husband losing his job as the company he worked for went bankrupt. There was a lot of turmoil in our family during this time; however, I feel I was able to deal with it well. My friends and sisters remarked how well I was coping with everything. I credit the Neurofeedback training with my ability to separate my thoughts from my emotions, allowing me to stay focused and remain calm. As a result of this experience, I have continued with the Neurofeedback on a weekly basis to maximize my health. I have seen continued improvements in my ability to organize my thoughts and see things with more clarity. I definitely have a greater awareness and my boundaries in work and relationships are much more defined. Overall I sleep better, I am less anxious and I have little or no pain. I have recommended Penny’s services to 2 others, who I know have really benefited and reported to me that they were completely satisfied with their experience. Penny is a great listener.

- Penny is more than just a nurse; she is also a skilled Neurofeedback trainer, craniosacral therapist, healer and counsellor all wrapped up in one. She is an awesome listener who helps me bring insight to the current situation. Penny lets me vent, without staying stuck in my story: I feel acknowledged and heard in her presence. With Neurofeedback training I have noticed that I sleep better and I am calmer and less vigilant over all. Penny has an amazing grounding presence that facilitates healing. You must experience it to appreciate it!

- I have received Neurofeedback training with Penny and I am impressed with the results. Prior to beginning Neurofeedback training, I was depressed and self medicating myself with recreational drugs. I had been labeled ADD as child and struggled in school and I was on the verge of being expelled. Since having Neurofeedback, I have come to notice changes not only in my academic studies, but in my addictive patterns. Initially I seemed more rested and then I started to experience an inner calm. I was less impulsive. I lost the desire to engage in my destructive habits. I no longer use recreational drugs. I graduated from high school without being expelled and my relationship with my family has improved. I would recommend Neurofeedback to anyone who has addictions and I would strongly suggest that you keeping coming back…..even when you want to stop….because Neurofeedback works. Penny told me: “you can in engage in your addiction, and you can engage in Neurofeedback, but what you cannot do is engage in the Neurofeedback and your addiction at the same time, because one of them will have to give”. And she was right!

- When I began Neurofeedback, I knew nothing about it and was skeptical that by relaxing in a chair and listening to music that I could change my behaviour and life. I am “textbook” ADHD and I was suddenly faced with all the stress and responsibility of organizing my wedding in a scant 3 months! I am not capable of that! Penny worked with me several times a week during that period. It was incredible…I watched myself handle things that I usually was not able to do. My self-esteem rose 100%. I still can not believe the things I was facing and dealing with successfully. I was able to make decisions independently and organized my thoughts while remaining calm. I did not get overwhelmed by stressful situations. It was like suddenly having a chance to be almost normal in the world without the paralysis of ADHD. In my opinion, Penny has a special “calling”. She is meant to help people heal. She has that special ability. Just being with Penny is a calming experience for people. Penny is so genuine and strives to find what each specific person needs. I would absolutely recommend her services to anyone. Everyone should be so lucky to have Penny Hyndman working for their well-being!

- After being a regular client of Penny’s for the last 4 years, I have great faith in Neurofeedback and its healing powers. I sleep better and I do not wake up feeling depressed. Penny has also been providing Neurofeedback training to my 6 year old Pomeranian dog Willie for the last 4 months. Willie was a rescue dog who had been traumatized and raised as a stud in a “puppy mill”. Shortly after adopting Willie, I had to visit family un-expectantly and had to leave Willie in day care. I returned to find that Willie had been vomiting during my departure. The vet reported that Willie was suffering from sever stress and loneliness. When I told Penny about Willie’s fears and anxiety, she reported that her cat Max, who was adopted from a shelter, had similar qualities prior to giving him Neurofeedback Training. Prior to Neurofeedback training Willie had no life in his eyes. He did not bark or play; he hated wearing a leash and did not want to go for walks; he would bite at people’s heels; he showed little affection and he did not groom himself. To my amazement, during the initial training session, Willie began to bathe himself and did so during the entire session. I thought it was marvelous as I had never seen him do this before. There was also an intense shift in his eyes, as if a light was being turned on. During the following week, Willie was calmer and more affectionate. With each session, I notice more affection. Willie welcomes Penny and is so excited to see her. Willie will sit perfectly still and observes patiently as Penny puts the sensors on his tiny head. Today he is full of life and his eyes sparkle. He loves to play with his toys and he will come immediately when he is shown his leash. Willie still bites at people’s heels, however, he is able to follow instructions and I trust he will break free of this behaviour. I myself noticed ongoing shifts as I continue with the training and have noticed marvelous results in my own life. Therefore, Willie will also continue! I have a different dog today because of the NeurOptimal™ training with Penny. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Who would have imagined that something so simple would, make such as big difference to both my life and Willie’s! It is truly marvelous!

- Penny is open, warm, non-judgmental, knowledgeable and caring. My original purpose in seeing Penny was for treatment of addiction. I am a high energy person; some may say “hyperactive”. There is no doubt that this trait played a role in my addiction and life relationships. It is my opinion, that I have been self medicating an overactive mind/brain. I have received some 35 sessions and my greatest benefits are mental focus and concentration. My listening skills have increased enormously and I feel more rested when I wake up in the morning. But most of all I am now able to meditate once or twice each day! I am able to make the changes in my life that bring me peace and joy! Thanks Penny

- There are many reasons why I chose Neurofeedback Training. I experienced pain and stiffness of fibromyalgia, sleep problems and ongoing low level depression. I also have some difficulty concentrating and following through as I try to do too many things; hence, I usually end up jumping from one thing to another. The most important reason I chose Neurofeedback was that I wanted to be able to separate my thoughts from my feelings, particularly around relationships issues. I wanted to be able see more options and make different choices. After 8 or 9 sessions, I am able to return to sleep when I wake up in the middle of the night. The depression is for shorter periods of time and seems less debilitating. I am able to bounce back more quickly. I am not certain if my concentration has improved on the “outside” things, but I am more aware of what is happening in my body; both sensations I feel as a result of my thoughts, and long held internal patterns of behaviours. I have discovered that I am looking more inside for my happiness, and validation. I am less afraid to speak up for myself and therefore have options that I didn’t formerly have. As I learn to support myself, I find I feel less lonely. Penny always puts a positive spin on things and helps me to see my progress both by her enthusiasm and by showing me my brainwave changes.

- My grandson and my family have received hope from the Neurofeedback training with Penny. As all grand parents are, we were thrilled to have a grandson presented to us 7 years ago. And we were proud when he never cried, crawled at 8 months and was always ready and eager to do any task we presented to him. That pride, sadly degenerated into true concern when by 24 months he had still regretfully never cried and seemed to have no fear or concept of possible consequences to anything that he did. Even though he did not speak a word, he seemed angry at us for not understanding what he wanted or needed. By age 3 most people thought he was amazing for his small stature. Due to his inability to speak, he easily passed for a very agile 1 ½ year old. As his 4th Birthday approached I knew that something would need to change as soon he would be attending school. He and I had developed our own made up sign language to communicate, as I was sure he might be deaf. I didn’t know if I was relieved or saddened to find out he could hear perfectly. With kindergarten looming, I signed us up for Tae Kwan Do, to assist in his concentration, self control and focus. There he could kick, jump and punch to his heart’s content within a controlled environment. We also took him to speech therapy where there was concern was that the muscles of his tongue had atrophied. I thought to myself, I will never have a child stick their tongue out; I longed for him to be able to do that.
We decided French Immersion would give him a better start in that most of the children would be struggling with language at the same level he was. Although he had full comprehension of the words, he still readily wasn’t speaking comfortably and sometimes he got the meanings of words confused. I feared that he was going to be socially shunned. Unfortunately, the school system did not agree and we began our search for something other than ADD or ADHD medication to “normalized” this child to “fit” into the system.
Private school or alternative school looked like the only possibility, but the expenses looked staggering. We loved his spirit, wit, and drive and did not want to damper that. A woman in our Tae Kwan do class came to me after class one day and pointed out that I seemed to be frustrated with my grandson lately. I had to admit, although my frustration was with the system, I did take it out on him as he was the source of it all. She directed me to Penny. We saw Penny for less than a year and my grandson is on his third belt in Tae Kwon Do. He can do a form that has 19 moves. He is in a public school grade 2 class. He goes to birthday parties with other kids his age and we don’t have to go with him! He tells us all about his day at school and what he has learned. He loves bugs and sometimes when he is really mad he sticks his tongue out! Thank you Penny!

The combination approach:
Neurofeedback and Craniosacral together
- I started Craniosacral Therapy and then added the Neurofeedback training to the Craniosacral sessions. I initially wanted to “get a handle” on my stress, now I am working on improving my shoulder mobility. I would say that the combination of Craniosacral Therapy and Neurofeedback are excellent and I always feel better after a session (although not always in the same day). The sessions have improved my life, as I no longer worry as much and I cope better when I have multiple tasks to do. I also do not feel like I am in a “time crunch” all the time. Others have commented on how I have changed, noticing that I am calmer and more relaxed. My neck and shoulder pain has also improved. I think Penny is very talented. When she puts her hands on you, she has a great sense of just what to do. I enjoy the amazing feeling as Penny puts her hands on my neck and shoulder; it is so soothing and I can feel the energy changing. Penny has a great understanding of Neurofeedback and is always willing to share her knowledge. I enjoy Penny’s delightful personality-she often makes me laugh! I would definitely recommend her services to others. I always look forward to my session and feel it is my gift to myself to have my hour of complete relaxation and healing.

- I sought Neurofeedback as a remedy for insomnia and to address emotions of grief and anger. Via Neurofeedback and Craniosacral therapy I feel I cleared pain and fear in a fairly peaceful manner. I am now sleeping very well and have released & processed emotions of grief/anger. Penny is a pleasure to work with; gentle and compassionate. The Craniosacral sessions with Neurofeedback were very relaxing, while at the same time your consciousness goes very deep in releasing buried incomplete emotions. I would recommend Penny’s services to anyone wanting an inner tune up.
- Annie Lindquest- Burnaby, B.C. -Retired Child & Youth Care Counsellor
- I was looking for a treatment to help cope with chronic pain, which included the mental (i.e. stress, anxiety, and depression) as well as the physical aspect. Penny provided a relaxing and comfortable environmental for treatment. Penny was professional and caring. The treatments themselves were relaxing. I believe that the Neurofeedback had a calming effect and helped me to be less reactive to situations that may have been frustrating or annoying. The Craniosacral helped with my posture which reduced some of the tightness in my upper chest and neck. Trying to cope with chronic pain made it difficult to cope with life, and the Neurofeedback and Craniosacral treatments helped with the pain and made it possible to respond to life’s stresses better. I no longer live in the Lower Mainland; consequently, I have not been able to continue with Penny. If I were living in her vicinity I expect that I would be continuing regular treatments. I particularly miss the opportunity to have the combination of Neurofeedback and Craniosacral treatments together. I think that Penny offers a unique treatment with this combination. As well, I appreciated that Penny offered the Craniosacral treatment in addition to the Neurofeedback without an extra cost, and that by prepaying for Packages, I was able to minimize some of the expense.

Craniosacral Therapy
- I was in a car accident a few years ago and have been struggling with pain and borderline Fibromyalgia. I found Craniosacral Therapy very gentle and relaxing compared to all the other therapies I’ve experienced. After many massage sessions and chiropractic adjustments, this seemed the natural and gentle addition to my further healing and recovery…which seemed to plateau. I could feel my body relax and shift during the sessions. The sessions were very gentle and non invasive, leaving me relaxed in body and in mind. The fact that I could lie on my sacrum/tailbone for the length of the session, not needing to get up, was a relief. After the sessions I was able to sit and lie on my sacrum/tailbone for longer periods with less pain. It also helped my dominant hand function better and my headaches have become fewer. It was a relief to find a gentle therapy that didn’t leave me tensing up during treatments.

Reflexology
- I find reflexology very relaxing. By relaxing my body and my mind, my blood pressure has been lowered. I also sleep better. Penny’s gentle but powerful touch is very healing

- When Penny was learning VRT, I had broken my ankle and had reached a plateau in my physiotherapy. Penny performed reflexology while I was standing each day for a week. Vertical reflexology was very effective in decreasing my pain and I believe assisted me in gaining more flexibility and mobility. I was skeptical that applying pressure to my feet while standing would be effective. However, I found it very effective for decreasing my pain and recommend it to anyone who has orthopedic pain.
